In the evening, the ramparts of the Palais El Badi are lit up, and off we go: drums, dances, fire-eaters and snake charmers. You go from a group of Berber dancers to a Gnawa orchestra in a matter of meters. And on Jemaa el-Fna, it goes on until late, with storytellers surrounded by fascinated kids.<\/p>\n

I had planned to \u201cjust drop in\u201d... I left at midnight, ears ringing and a huge smile on my face.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

2. International Film Festival - Glamour version Marrakech<\/h2>\n

You find yourself sitting on a plastic chair in Place Jemaa el-Fna, watching a film projected onto a giant screen... and behind you, a snail seller shouting his prices. That's cinema in Marrakech: an unlikely mix.<\/p>\n

If you want to play on the red carpet, there are also galas at the Palais des Congr\u00e8s, with long dresses and flashbulbs everywhere. I bumped into a French actor on the way out... he ended up drinking tea next to me.<\/p>\n

3. Marrakech Biennial - Art spilling over into the street<\/h2>\n

7. Short Film Festival - Small films, big effects<\/h2>\n

What I like here is the proximity. You see a short film, then have a chat with the director in the courtyard of a riad over a cup of tea. No distance, no star system. Just passionate people sharing.<\/p>\n
