Golf Hotels in Marrakech: We Took a Tour of the Courses

Golf courses in Marrakech, fairways and palm trees

Marrakech has about ten golf courses within a 30-kilometer radius. It's not St. Andrews, but for a vacation combining sun, well-appointed accommodation, and clear fairways from November to April, the city holds its own. We live here, we know the places. What we can say is that truly golf-friendly hotels in Marrakech are not abundant. There are perhaps five or six that combine direct access to a course with a level of accommodation that justifies the trip.

Golf in Marrakech is primarily a matter of the Palmeraie and the southern outskirts. Most courses are located 15 to 25 minutes from the center: Al Maaden, Amelkis, the Royal Golf Club (founded in 1927, Palmer course), Samanah, Assoufid, not to mention the Grand Golf de la Palmeraie, directly accessible from several hotels. Golfers coming for a week of play want simplified access: ideally a hotel on the course or a 5-minute walk away.

We've reviewed the database. Here's what we've gathered.

Who is this for?

This article is aimed at travelers planning a golf-centric trip. Not for those who might play a round on the fringes of a city break in the medina. These are two very different types of trips.

It suits perfectly For experienced golfers who want to play 2 to 4 rounds over 5 to 7 days. For couples where one plays golf and the other is looking for a hotel with a spa, pool, and enough space to not get bored during 18 holes. For companies organizing golf seminars, a very popular format in the region. For travelers who want the full resort experience without having to manage the medina logistics.

It's less suitable For first-time visitors to Marrakech who only have 3 days and want to see everything. Golf hotels are often on the outskirts, and sacrificing the medina for a 7:30 AM tee time when it's your first trip isn't usually the best calculation. It's also less suitable for smaller budgets: golf hotels in Marrakech are almost exclusively in the higher-end categories.

How's it going

Golf logistics in Marrakech are quite simple if you prepare before arriving. The most played courses are: Al Maaden (18 holes, designed by Kyle Phillips, probably the most technical course in the region), Amelkis (27 holes, three 9-hole loops, savannah-style landscape), Royal Golf Club (18 historic holes, well-maintained irrigation, traditional club atmosphere), Samanah (18 holes, Norman/DeSilva, championship course), Assoufid (18 holes, Cabell Robinson). Green fees vary according to the season and direct booking.

For hotels located on a course, access is direct on foot or by golf cart. For others, allow 10 to 20 minutes by car depending on the address. Almost all hotels in this segment offer a shuttle service or can connect you with the clubs. Some have preferential rates with several courses, which can significantly reduce green fees for residents. This should be checked when booking.

Practical aspects: The equipment travels well from major European cities. If you're traveling light, club rental is available at most clubs, but the quality varies. We recommend bringing your own clubs if you're particular about the feel.

Five addresses selected from curation-eligible hotels with direct or less than 5-minute access to golf. Sorted by quality score. All in the upper ranges.

Pickalbatros Hotel Du Golf Marrakech, facade and pool of the all-inclusive Palmeraie resort

Pickalbatros Hotel Du Golf

Pickalbatros Hotel Du Golf It is the highest-rated establishment in the selection with a 9.0/10 from over 1,200 reviews, making it one of the most tested references in the Marrakech golf segment. The format is all-inclusive, adults only (16+), which partly explains the consistent ratings: the customer profile is coherent. Located in the Palmeraie, the hotel overlooks the 18-hole Grand Golf de la Palmeraie course, set amidst the palm grove. With a spa, several swimming pools, and on-site restaurants, the resort format is comprehensive, allowing guests to stay within the premises if they don't feel like venturing out.

Al Maaden Villa Hotel & Spa Marrakech, golf and nature

Al Maaden Villa Hotel & Spa

Al Maaden Villa Hotel & Spa It's our choice for golfers who want the most technically demanding course in the region. Al Maaden Golf, designed by Kyle Phillips, is recognized as one of the most beautiful courses in Africa, with its fairways lined by centuries-old olive trees and views of the Atlas Mountains. The hotel literally borders the course, 10 minutes from Jemaa el-Fna. Rated 9.2/10 from 680 verified reviews. Spa, multiple restaurants, swimming pool. Villas with private garden access are the preferred option for long-term guests.

Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech, luxury resort with golf course and Atlas Mountains view

Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech

Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech It is the international grand resort format with an integrated golf course. Located about 20 minutes from the city center, the resort offers its own golf course with views of the Atlas Mountains from the rooms overlooking the course. Rated 9.2/10 from 254 reviews. The limited number of reviews is due to its recent opening, but the consistency is there. Four restaurants, two bars, Willow Stream spa, several swimming pools. For golfers who want an international benchmark in a Moroccan setting, this is the place.

Pavillon du Golf Marrakech Palmeraie, suites with a view of the 18-hole golf course

Golf Pavilion

Golf Pavilion, in the Palmeraie, is the most reviewed option in the selection with nearly 1,000 verified reviews and an average rating of 8.5/10. It's not a grand palace format: it's a suite hotel set in a garden in the Palmeraie, with direct access to the adjoining 18-hole golf course. The value for money is better than its neighbors in the ultra-luxury range, making it a good entry-level option for week-long golf stays without breaking the accommodation budget. Outdoor pool, on-site restaurant, quiet setting.

Al Maaden Resort & Spa Marrakech

La Villa Des Golfs & PinkCactus

La Villa Des Golfs & PinkCactus It's the only mid-range option on the list, and that's intentional. With an 8.3/10 rating from 389 reviews, the value for money is significantly better than the ultra-luxury options. Spa, pool with a view, terrace, restaurant, outdoor fireplace: the amenities cover the essentials. Access to the surrounding golf courses is by car, taking 5 to 10 minutes depending on the chosen course. For group golf trips where accommodation isn't the focal point of the trip, it's a solid choice.

When to come

The golf season in Marrakech runs from October to May. Outside of this window, temperatures quickly climb above 35 degrees Celsius during the day, making playing 18 holes between 11 AM and 3 PM in July physically demanding. June is still playable in the early morning. In July and August, we advise against playing more than 9 holes starting from 9 AM. For more details on the optimal calendar, our guide Golf season in Marrakech and best months to visit cover the question month by month.

Best time: November to the end of March. Fairways are in good condition after the autumn rains, temperatures are mild (20 to 25 degrees Celsius during the day), and hotels are charging their high season rates but also offer the best playing conditions. April and October are interesting alternatives with fewer crowds and often more negotiable rates.

The trap

The main pitfall: choosing a hotel “with golf nearby” without verifying what “nearby” actually means. Some establishments advertise golf access, but the course is a 25-minute drive away and requires a separate booking, with no preferential rates. In this case, any hotel in the city would allow you to access the same courses from your rental car. This isn't what we look for in a golf hotel: we're looking for direct or near-direct access, and ideally an agreement with the club.

Second point: the season. Booking a golf trip for the end of June based on an attractive rate, only to discover that playing 18 holes at 10 am means 38 degrees Celsius at the 10th tee. It's not the same experience. The accommodations listed here are valid year-round as hotels, but for a golf trip organized around playing, stick to the October-May window.

Golf in Marrakech, courses and luxury hotels

Our verdict

For a stay organized around gaming, we recommend first Al Maaden Villa Hotel & Spa If the course matters as much as the hotel: Al Maaden Golf is the most technical in the region, and the hotel remains the most central of the selection. For the all-inclusive package with the largest number of verified reviews, Pickalbatros Hotel Du Golf is unbeatable for consistency. And for the international brand, Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech checks all the boxes for a premium resort. If golf is just part of the stay, Accommodation in Marrakech also depends on the neighborhood and the format. — not just on the proximity of the course. To compare the entire best hotels in Marrakech Beyond the golf criterion, our comprehensive selection covers all segments.
